Itinerary: Wineries, Breweries & Distilleries

Raise a glass to “locally made” with a visit to one of our unique local wineries, craft breweries or distilleries.

Winemakers, in particular, are busy in the vineyards — and the tasting rooms — as North Georgia comes into its own as a winemaking region. In fact, a section of the Georgia Mountain Parkway has be designated as the “Upper Hiwassee Highlands” American Viticultural Area (AVA) — joining such esteemed winemaking regions as Napa Valley and New York’s Finger Lakes.

Not to be outdone, passionate local brewers are doing their part to turn North Georgia into the next craft beer mecca. From IPAs and amber ales to lagers and hard ciders, microbrew enthusiasts enjoy plenty of opportunities to quench their thirst along the Parkway.

You’ll even find a distillery on the Parkway that makes moonshine, something that was considered “illegal” just a few short years ago. Today, “white lightning” is making a comeback, and you don’t want to miss out on tasting a few of the new flavors.
